Children with hands up in a classroom

A joint-venture between the British Council and the Department for International Development (DFID), the programme has been designed in response to an independent review of how best to teach young people about global themes.

Connecting Classrooms runs in 50 countries, including the Caribbean. It offers opportunity for school partnerships and accreditation, along with professional development courses for teachers and a chance for them to share best practice with their counterparts around the world.

In the Caribbean over 430 schools are registered on Schools Online with 25 grants awarded so far for school funded partnerships.

We are committed to continuous professional development courses on global citizenship, host train the trainer events and train more than 170 more teachers in the Caribbean. Our school leadership plan involves partnering with organisations, Ministries and head teachers in the Caribbean.

On a global scale:

  • 43 partnerships have been formed
  • 5076 schools are registered
  • 300 head teachers trained in leadership
  • 2119 teachers trained in global citizenship
  • 1 Master trainer and 18 deliverers (trainers) validated by the Institute of Education
  • 23 policymakers reached
