Strategies to Increase Sustainability – Seminar Focus

RAP project’s focus on capacity-building for NGOs and CSOs was met by two key presentations at the one-day June 25 seminar.

  • Mickel Jackson, Organizational Development and Communications Officer at World Learning gave practical advice and tools to assess the strengths and weaknesses of an organisation.
  • The Social Enterprise Model— an innovative way to support the social mission by making a profit, was a seminar highlight. Presentations on SEBI were made by JN Foundation’s General Manager, Saffrey Brown and SEBI Project Manager Jennifer Sharrier. Jamaica National Foundation’s Social Enterprise Boost Initiative (SEBI) is currently working with 10 social enterprises and encouraging more.

The SEBI WEBSITE defines a social enterprise as: a business that generates income from the sale of goods and services and uses the profits to solve issues such as: unemployment, homelessness and environmental degradation.  SEBI is defined by the formula: Purpose + Profit = Nurturing
