The British Council facilitated a capacity-building programme on script development led by UK expert Ludo Smolksi, with the support of local partners Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) and Jamaica Film and Television Association (JAFTA).  One of the scripts, Shoot the Girl, by filmmaker Tony Hendricks, was shortlisted for the 2017 Cannes Golden Plume Award.

The film capacity-building programme was designed to enhance the skill of scriptwriting, through a combination of workshops, mentoring, pitching to corporates and teambuilding to strengthen the film sector.  Participants were organised into groups and worked together over months to develop the final scripts.

The workshop delivered a skills development programme in film, led by Ludo. This showcased the best of UK talent and filmmaking expertise.  In articles about the shortlisted film, the British Council was mentioned as being instrumental in the success of this film.  This has led to the planning of a 3-year programme in film, which will see the British Council partnering with UK film company to scale the programme.
