We have a long time collaboration with the Royal Court Theatre and the Cuban Council of Performing Arts to develop Young Cuban playwrights. As part of this collaboration, in March 2015 we hosted a new Writing for the Theatre workshop for 14 Cuban emerging writers. The workshop was facilitated by British playwrights Vivienne Franzmann and Stephen Jeffreys.
At the end of the event, participant Patricia Vilá, a 5th-year student at the Cuban University of the Arts wrote: “For us, this has been an extraordinary opportunity. With our Royal Court mentors, we have explored parts of playwriting and processes in drama writing we didn’t know about these are new tools we have acquired for our creative development. They shared with us their plays, their knowledge about the structure of texts, the creation of strong characters and strong visual elements. But our journey is just beginning; now we have to focus on writing the new play that between 14th and 22nd March each of us has started to create.
We look forward to subsequent workshops with our maestros from the Royal Court Theatre and very much appreciate the unforgettable experience we have just had.”
This workshop was the first in a series of 3 -workshops 2 and 3 are planned for November 2015 and April 2016.
